Motion for Leave to Electronically File (E-File)
If you do not have an attorney and are representing yourself, you must open your case by mail or in person. However, after your case is opened and you want to request to file electronically over the Internet (“efile”), you must file a motion.
A motion for leave to efile must comply with the
Electronic Case Filing – Administrative Policies and Procedures Manual, Sec. 2, b. Pro Se Litigants. You must also indicate that you have the necessary hardware and software, including:
- A computer running on Windows 7 or higher, MacOS X or higher, or Linux;
- Software to convert documents from a word processor format to PDF, such as Adobe Acrobat;
- Document scanner to convert paper documents to PDF files;
- Internet access capable of downloading and uploading file sizes up to 35 MB;
- A compatible browser, such as Firefox 15 or higher, Microsoft Edge, or Safari 5.1 or higher;
- An email account to receive notifications from the Court.

Being able to file electronically is a privilege that may be revoked
if your filings are frivolous or abusive.
