Names are selected at random using an automated jury management program. This notice is provided pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1864.

Bartick Award for Civility and Professionalism.” This award will recognize one individual per year who has demonstrated civility and professionalism in his or her practice of law. The annual recipients of the Bartick Award will have their names engraved on a permanent award displayed in the lobby of the Carter/Keep courthouse.

Keep, who served as a United States District Judge in the Southern District of California for over twenty years and as the District's first female Chief Judge from 1991 to 1998. Bartick Award for Civility and Professionalism.” This award will recognize one individual per year who has demonstrated civility and professionalism in his or her practice of law. The annual recipients of the Bartick Award will have their names engraved on a permanent award displayed in the lobby of the Carter/Keep courthouse.

Additional information about the award, including eligibility criteria and instructions for submitting a nomination, are attached. Nominations are due on or before July 12, 2019. The 2019 Bartick Award recipient will be announced at the October 10, 2019 State of the District Luncheon.

 Vaping Scenario Shows How the 4th Amendment Applies at School
U.S. Magistrate Judge Ruth Bermudez Montenegro and her law clerk Devin H. Mirchi, both front and center, led students in practicing civil discourse skills as jurors at the courthouse in El Centro, California. Preliminary judging has been completed in the 2019 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest for high school students in the western United States, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. All told, over 1,300 young people entered the contest, which offers cash prizes and a chance to meet some of the nation’s preeminent jurists and legal practitioners.
