CONTEXT & COMMENTS

1) Def.: An earlier offense that can be used to enhance a sentence imposed for a later conviction.
       •Many sentencing enhancements require the existence of a predicate offense.
2) Def.:  Under RICO, a predicate act is one of two or more related acts of racketeering necessary to establish a pattern.
       • Extortion and blackmail are examples of RICO predicate acts.
