Def.: Deliberate avoidance of knowledge of a crime, esp. by failing to make a reasonable inquiry about suspected wrongdoing despite being aware that it is highly probable. (Black's Law Dictionary, 9th ed. 2009)
        • Despite the fact that the defendant had no direct knowledge of the drugs hidden in his car, the jury found him guilty due to his willful blindness.
 
Note: This concept is addressed by the Ninth Circuit in its jury instruction regarding deliberate ignorance.
